JAZZ NIGHTS

Nací en Cali y aquí estudié hasta el bachillerato, pero luego me fui a Bogotá, a la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, donde me hice Biólogo.  Además, hice estudios de Especialización en ingeniería Ambiental y me convertí en auditor certificado para sistemas de gestión ISO 9001-2000, ISO 14001 y OHSAS 18000.  Complementé mi formación en estudios e investigación sobre el Fenómeno de "El Niño" con el Instituto Oceanográfico de la universidad de Oregon y el Instituto Gesofísico del Perú, con el auspicio de las Naciones Unidas.

Una buena parte de mi actividad profesional la desarrollé cerca del mar, incluyendo mi tesis de pregrado, en estudios de maricultura, investigaciones eco-toxicológicas, estudios ambientales y labores docentes en Biología Pesquera, después de lo cual pasé un periodo como pescador, sin tener una completa vocación para ello.

Posteriormente, me concentré en el tema de la gestión ambiental, evaluación de riesgos y manejo de la problemática asociada con el entorno para el sector de hidrocarburos, en los negocios de exploración, producción y transporte de crudos y productos derivados.

Uno de los encantos de mi trabajo, ha sido la oportunidad de conocer casi todo este país por tierra. Desde el Amazonas hasta La Guajira, los Andes y sus valles inter-andinos, el Pacífico, el Caribe y la Orinoquía. Sus ciudades, sus tierras y gentes, lagunas y ríos. Su fiestas, alegrías, tristezas y miedos... es una experiencia que deja una profunda marca en el alma...

Ahora, pienso que las comunicaciones pudieo haber sido mi verdadero talento.  En el fondo, uno no termina de conocerse ni de sorprederse por esos hallazgos.  Igual, estoy aquí para servir a Ustedes y a esta Colombia que está en mi corazón.

Y entonces, llegamos al Jazz y los Blues.  El Jazz, tal vez el género musical que mayor universalidad ha logrado. Sobreviviente, fuerte, creciente. Sus raices africanas convergen con muchos de los ritmos musicales de nuestro país.  Por otra parte, el Jazz representa un largo camino hacia la libertad, tanto de los grupos humanos que lo han ido estructurando, como de la expresión estética de sus cultores.  Después de más de 20 años estudiándolo y luego compartiéndolo a través de la radio, quiero invitarlos a recorrer conmigo ese camino, con la ayuda tecnológica que nos brinda la red...

I was born in Cali and here I studied until the high school, but then I left to Bogotá, to the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, where I made myself Biologist.  Also, I made studies  in Environmental Engineering and became certified auditor for administration systems ISO 9001-2000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18000.  I supplemented my formation in studies and investigation on the "El Niño" Phenomenon with the Scripts Oceanographic Institute of the Oregon University and the Instituto Gesofísico del Oeru, with the auspice of the United Nations.  
 
A good part of my professional activity was developed near the sea, including my biology thesis, aquaculture studies, echo-toxicological investigations, environmental studies and educational works in Fisheries Biology. After that I passed one period like fisherman, without having a complete vocation for it.  
 
Later on, I concentrated on the topic of the environmental administration, evaluation of risks and handling of the problem associated with the environment for hydrocarbon projects in the exploration business, production and transport of oil and derivated products.  
 
One of the charms of my work, was the opportunity to almost know this whole country for earth. From the Amazons until La Guajira, the Andes and their inter-Andean valleys, the Pacific, the Caribbean and the Orinoquia. Their cities, their lands and people, lagoons and rivers. Their parties, happiness, sadness and fears... it is an experience that leaves a deep mark in the soul...  
 
Now, I think that the communications would have been my true talent.  In the bottom, one doesn't finish being known neither of feel surprise for those discoveries.  Same, I am here to serve you and this Colombia that it is in my heart.  
 
And then, we arrive to the Jazz and the Blues.  The Jazz, perhaps the musical gender that bigger universality has achieved. Survivor, strong, growing. Their African roots converge with many of the musical rhythms of our country.  On the other hand, the Jazz represents a long road toward the freedom, so much of the human groups that have gone it structuring, as of the aesthetic expression of its players.  After more than 20 years studying it and then sharing it through the radio, I want to invite You to travel with me that road, with the technological help that offers us the Web...
